1. Main Verb (Principal Verb)

A verb that shows the main action of the sentence.

2. Helping Verb (Auxiliary Verb)

Definition:

A verb that helps the main verb.

Common Helping Verbs:

3. Modal Verbs

Definition:

Helping verbs that show:

  • The baby slept.


6. Linking Verb

Definition:

A verb that connects subject with more information.

Common Linking Verbs:

  • is

  • are

  • was

  • were

  • seem

  • become

  • appear

Examples:

  • The food smells good.


7. Action Verb

Definition:

Shows physical or mental action.

Examples:

Physical:

8. Stative Verb

Definition:

Shows state, not action.

  • believe

  • understand
